Dementia care requires empathy, understanding, and the ability to respond to changing needs with confidence and compassion. This fully online course introduces learners to the key principles of supporting individuals living with dementia at different stages of their journey. Suitable for you if you want to know more about dementia or are working or considering work in health or social care, the course explores what dementia is and how it can affect memory, behaviour, communication, and daily life. You’ll develop awareness of person-centred approaches that place the individual’s needs, preferences, and dignity at the heart of care and support. The course also looks at how communication can be influenced by dementia and how positive, adaptive techniques can help maintain meaningful interaction. You’ll gain insight into equality, diversity, and inclusion within dementia care, alongside understanding behaviour in context and the importance of engaging individuals in activities that support wellbeing. Also introduces awareness of medication support and safe, person-centred approaches within care settings. Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on professional yet compassionate practice that supports individuals and those around them. Delivered entirely online, the course allows you to study flexibly from anywhere and at a pace that suits your lifestyle. By completing the course, you’ll gain valuable knowledge and confidence to support individuals living with dementia in a respectful and informed way.

It is important to note that when you enrol on an Access to HE courseyou can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to help with the costs of a course at a college or training provider in England.

Loan eligibility does not depend on your income and there are no credit checks.

Check if you’re eligible before you apply for an Advanced Learner Loan.

Your loan will be written off if you then sign up for a Higher Education course AND you have completed in full the Access to HE course.
