This SWAP course is perfect for you if you want to move quickly into a rewarding role supporting others. Care roles are always in demand and offer opportunities across residential care, domiciliary care, and community-based services. This short, focused programme provides an introduction to working in the booming care industry, helping you understand the responsibilities, values, and skills required to support individuals safely and professionally. It is ideal if you’re new to the sector or returning to work. On successful completion, you are guaranteed a job interview with one of Hull College’s partner care employers. Throughout the course, you’ll explore the key principles of care, including dignity, respect, safeguarding, communication, and person-centred support. You’ll learn about professional behaviour, teamwork, and the importance of following policies and procedures in care settings. Health and safety is a core focus, helping you understand how to work safely while supporting others. Alongside sector knowledge, the programme includes employability training to prepare you for work. You’ll gain confidence, understand employer expectations, and receive support with CV writing, applications, and interview preparation. Learning is aligned to real care roles, ensuring skills are relevant and transferable. Training is delivered in a supportive environment by experienced tutors, with no previous care experience required. The course focuses on building confidence, awareness, and readiness for work rather than formal exams. By the end of the programme, you’ll be better prepared for employment in care, equipped with essential knowledge, and ready to take advantage of your guaranteed interview to begin a meaningful career supporting others. Entry Requirements Must be unemployed or a jobseeker claiming either Universal Credit, Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) or Employment and Support Allowance (ESA).

UCAS provides support for young people making post-18 choices, as well as mature learners, by providing information, advice, and guidance to inspire and facilitate educational progression to university, college, or a degree apprenticeship.

It is important to note that when you enrol on an Access to HE courseyou can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to help with the costs of a course at a college or training provider in England.

Loan eligibility does not depend on your income and there are no credit checks.

Check if you’re eligible before you apply for an Advanced Learner Loan.

Your loan will be written off if you then sign up for a Higher Education course AND you have completed in full the Access to HE course.
