Careers education does not have a start and end point; it is a fluid and continuous journey supported by a range of activities that help to inform individuals to take their next steps into further/ higher education and ultimately employment or self-employment.
Throughout a student’s studies while at Hull College there are a number of career focused activities within the different curriculum areas and centrally that will help develop a student’s employability skills and raise a student’s aspirations:
Employability Skills Passport Employers place equal value in ensuring that prospective employees possess a broad set of skills and knowledge. With this in mind, Hull College Group created the Employability Skills Passport and Seal. Accredited by the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership, the Passport is based on the 7 Confederation of British Industry (CBI) skills.
These skills cover competencies and 22 sub skills, and include: Problem solving, self-management, team work, application of digital technology, application of number, business and customer awareness.
Achieving these competencies and skills supports students in making a successful transition to employment, and Hull College Group provides students with a wide range of opportunities through which they are able to develop the 22 sub skills including work experience, skills competitions, employer live briefs, curriculum assessments and social enterprise projects.
All students are entitled to high quality independent careers guidance to help assist individuals in making and implementing informed educational and occupational choices. Hull College Group has a number of internal and external careers advisors who students are able to speak to confidentially regarding their career specific needs.
