This course is designed to build understanding, confidence, and awareness around self-harm and suicide, helping learners respond sensitively and appropriately when supporting individuals at risk. Suitable for a wide range of learners, the course explores why self-harm and suicide occur, how to recognise warning signs, and the principles of early intervention and prevention. It provides practical insight that can be applied across many personal and professional contexts, including education, health and social care, safeguarding roles, voluntary work, and family support. You will examine common myths and misconceptions, explore contributing factors such as mental health and life circumstances, and understand how to respond safely, ethically, and responsibly. The course also addresses the emotional impact of suicide, helping learners understand grief and bereavement and how best to support those affected. Delivered fully online, this flexible course allows learners to study at their own pace, from anywhere, making it accessible alongside work, caring responsibilities, or other commitments. Loan eligibility does not depend on your income and there are no credit checks.

Check if you’re eligible before you apply for an Advanced Learner Loan.

Your loan will be written off if you then sign up for a Higher Education course AND you have completed in full the Access to HE course.
