Supporting individuals with learning disabilities requires understanding, patience, and informed, inclusive practice. This fully online course introduces learners to the key principles of working with and supporting individuals with learning disabilities across a range of settings. Take the course and you will explore how different learning disabilities can affect individuals’ daily lives and the importance of providing respectful, person-centred support. You’ll gain awareness of safeguarding responsibilities and why protection, dignity, and choice are central to high-quality care and support. The course also introduces personalisation in social care, helping learners understand how support can be tailored to individual needs, strengths, and aspirations. You’ll explore positive risk-taking and how enabling choice and independence can support wellbeing while maintaining safety. In addition, the course develops awareness of autistic spectrum conditions and considers how individuals with learning disabilities can be supported to access healthcare services effectively and confidently. Learning encourages inclusive attitudes and practical understanding rather than clinical practice. Delivered entirely online, the course allows you to study flexibly from anywhere and at a pace that suits your lifestyle. By completing the course, you’ll gain valuable knowledge and confidence to support individuals with learning disabilities in a respectful, informed, and person-centred way.

UCAS provides support for young people making post-18 choices, as well as mature learners, by providing information, advice, and guidance to inspire and facilitate educational progression to university, college, or a degree apprenticeship.

We support 1.5 million students every year to explore entering higher education, employment and apprenticeships and manage almost three million applications, from around 700,000 people each year, for full-time undergraduate courses at over 380 universities and colleges across the UK.

It is important to note that when you enrol on an Access to HE courseyou can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to help with the costs of a course at a college or training provider in England.

Loan eligibility does not depend on your income and there are no credit checks.

Check if you’re eligible before you apply for an Advanced Learner Loan.

Your loan will be written off if you then sign up for a Higher Education course AND you have completed in full the Access to HE course.
