Our talented Level 3 Art & Design students have been putting their creativity to meaningful use through a fantastic partnership with Hull & East Riding Breast Friends.
Working closely with HER Breast Friends, students designed and created a collection of handmade products to support individuals who are recovering from, or currently undergoing, breast cancer treatment. The range included thoughtfully designed heart cushions, seatbelt covers and Dammit Dolls – all created with comfort, care and wellbeing in mind.
Each piece was carefully developed by the students, combining creative thinking with practical design to ensure the final products were both functional and supportive for those who need them most.
This week, students had the opportunity to present their finished work directly to the charity team. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with the team praising both the originality of the designs and the high standard of craftsmanship across the collection.
For our students, the project has been about much more than design alone. It has provided a chance to understand how creative skills can be applied in real-world contexts to make a genuine difference to people’s lives. Working on a live brief with a local charity has helped them develop not only their technical abilities, but also their confidence, professionalism and sense of purpose as designers.
The collaboration has been described as a highly rewarding experience by both staff and students, with many reflecting on the value of using creativity to support wellbeing and community impact.
This inspiring project is a great example of how learning at the college extends beyond the classroom, giving students opportunities to engage with real partners, real challenges and real outcomes.
We look forward to continuing to build on this partnership with Hull & East Riding Breast Friends and exploring further opportunities for our students to use their creativity to support important causes in the community.
