Important updates, when they matter

Keeping You Informed

We know that staying informed and knowing who to contact are important to parents and guardians. While college encourages students to become more independent, we are committed to keeping families updated and working together to support every student’s success.

How We Keep in Touch

There are times when we may contact parents or guardians directly. This could include concerns around attendance, wellbeing, safeguarding, behaviour, or a student’s progress and engagement. We may also get in touch to share important information affecting the wider college community.

Communication may take place in a variety of ways, including email, telephone calls, text messages, letters, and app notifications. We aim to ensure important information reaches families quickly and clearly.

Information Shared with Students

As students move into Further Education, much of their day-to-day information is shared directly with them. This includes timetables, assignment deadlines, examination information, course updates, enrichment opportunities, careers information, and details about financial support.

College operates differently from school, and students are encouraged to take increasing responsibility for managing their studies and keeping up to date with important information. However, support remains available whenever it is needed.

Hull College App and Notifications

Our soon-to-be-launched Hull College app will help families stay connected with college life by providing key updates and notifications.

Depending on availability and permissions, parents may be able to view attendance information, receive important announcements, and stay informed about key dates and reminders throughout the year.

Information on how to access the app will be provided during enrolment and induction.

Please note that some information will continue to be shared directly with students, and access to certain features may vary depending on a student’s age and permissions.

Get in Touch

Parents often ask how frequently they will receive updates, who to contact if they have concerns, and whether they can speak directly with tutors.

We encourage parents and guardians to contact us if they have any worries about their young person’s attendance, wellbeing, or progress, and we will ensure enquiries are directed to the most appropriate member of staff.

It’s also important to remember that communication at college is different from school. Students are expected to take greater responsibility for their learning, and there may be occasions when information is shared directly with them rather than with parents or guardians.

If You Are Concerned

If you feel you are not receiving important information, please first check that your contact details are up to date and that messages are not being filtered into junk or spam folders. You should also ensure that you are registered for any parent communication platforms available.

If you still have concerns or need advice, our Student Services team will be happy to help and ensure you receive the information and support you need.
