Access to HE AT HULL COLLEGE
If you’ve got your sights set on university but don’t yet have the qualifications to get there, an Access to Higher Education (HE) Diploma could be your perfect next step. Designed for adults aged 19 and over, these courses offer a supportive route into Higher Education and degree-level study – especially if you don’t have “traditional” qualifications or you’ve been out of education for a while.
What is Access to HE?
Access to HE Diplomas are one-year qualifications that help you gain the relevant entry requirements for a university level course or degree. Created specifically for adults, they offer an exciting opportunity to retrain for a new career, re-engage with education, and take that next step towards university.
These Level 3 courses provide the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to progress into Higher Education.
With pathways across health, science, and education, Access to HE Diplomas are widely recognised by universities across the UK – with many actively welcoming Access applicants.
So, whether you’re planning a career change, aiming for a degree, or simply ready for something new, an Access to HE Diploma at Hull College can open the door. Don’t wait – take the first step towards changing your future.
Funding is also available through the Advanced Learner Loan (subject to eligibility). Even better – if you go on to complete a university-level course after your Access to HE Diploma, the balance of your Advanced Learner Loan will be written off.

I always imagined university would feel daunting, but after my first lecture I realised my Access to HE course at Hull College had given me all the tools and confidence I needed to take that next step. During my time at college, I also gained incredible friendships that have stayed strong long after we completed the course. We still encourage each other, drawing on the spirit and determination we built together at Hull College. Without the Access course – and the support of our tutor, Elizabeth – many of us wouldn’t be living our dreams today.
