One of our talented Catering students is preparing to compete on the national stage after securing a place in the WorldSkills UK Culinary Arts Final this November.
21-year-old Charlie Chappell has earned his place among the UK’s most promising young chefs after impressing judges in the regional heats. Selected as one of just eight finalists from more than 100 competitors across the country, Charlie will now represent Hull College in one of the UK’s most prestigious skills competitions.
WorldSkills UK gives students the opportunity to test their skills in real industry challenges, helping them develop the confidence, creativity and professionalism that employers are looking for. In the Culinary Arts competition, competitors are challenged to produce restaurant-quality dishes while demonstrating the technical skills, precision and organisation needed to succeed in a professional kitchen.
Reaching the national final is a fantastic achievement and reflects Charlie’s hard work, determination, and passion for the industry. It also highlights the outstanding teaching and industry-focused learning experiences available through the college’s Catering & Hospitality courses.
Charlie will now join the country’s top young chefs at the WorldSkills UK National Finals, where he’ll compete for national honours while receiving additional training and development to help prepare him for a successful career in hospitality.
Charlie’s success follows another outstanding year for our Catering & Hospitality department. Last year, the college was crowned Best Competing College 2025 at the British Culinary Championships, with Charlie among the medal-winning students who helped secure the prestigious title.
His latest achievement is another fantastic example of where talent, dedication, and a passion for learning can take you.
Everyone at the college is incredibly proud of Charlie and wishes him every success as he prepares for November’s national final.
