Our Travel and Tourism students recently returned from an unforgettable three-day trip to Copenhagen, where they experienced first-hand what makes the Danish capital one of Europe’s most popular city break destinations.

The visit gave students the chance to explore a city renowned for its striking modern design, strong cycling culture and iconic waterfront areas, while also developing their understanding of international tourism in a real-world setting.

During their first full day, the group took part in a hop-on hop-off bus tour, allowing them to see key landmarks and get a feel for the city’s layout and character. One of the highlights included a visit to the famous Little Mermaid statue, inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s much-loved fairytale and recognised around the world as a symbol of Copenhagen.

Students spent much of the day exploring both well-known attractions and hidden gems, travelling across the city on foot and gaining a real appreciation for its atmosphere and cultural identity. The day ended with an al fresco evening meal overlooking one of the city’s canals, giving the group a chance to reflect on their experiences together.

The following day included a visit to Tivoli Gardens, one of the oldest amusement parks in the world. Known for its unique combination of historic charm, landscaped gardens and vibrant entertainment, Tivoli offered students another perspective on how tourism attractions can combine heritage, leisure and visitor experience in one destination.

The group also enjoyed a relaxed evening meal in a central square, rounding off another busy and memorable day in the city.

Throughout the trip, students fully embraced the experience, making the most of every opportunity to explore, learn and engage with a major European tourism destination. As well as building their subject knowledge, the visit provided valuable insight into how cities attract and manage international visitors, while also creating lasting memories and strengthening friendships within the group.
