Thinking about your next step? Whether you’re choosing your first course after school, exploring an apprenticeship, looking to gain new skills as an adult learner, or considering Higher Education, our Open Events are a great chance to see what Hull College is really like.
You can explore our courses, meet our tutors, see our specialist facilities and get answers to the questions that matter to you.
With plenty to see and do, we’ve put together our top tips to help you make the most of your visit.
1. Plan Your Visit
A little preparation can make a big difference. Before you arrive, think about the courses or subject areas you’d like to explore and anything you particularly want to find out. But don’t worry if you’re not sure what you want to study yet. That’s exactly what our Open Events are for.
2. Bring Company
You don’t have to come along on your own. Bring a parent, carer, family member or friend and explore the college together.
They might think of a question you hadn’t considered, help you compare your options, or simply give you someone to chat to afterwards about what you’ve seen.
Parents and carers are very welcome to attend our Open Events, and they don’t need to register separately.
3. Pick Up a Copy of Our Event Booklet
Make sure you grab a copy of our event booklet when you arrive.
It’s a handy guide to help you find your way around, see what’s happening during the event, and make sure you don’t miss anything you want to explore. You can also take it home with you, giving you something to look back through when you’re deciding on your next step.
You can download a digital version ahead of the event here.
4. Attend a Welcome Talk
Start your visit with our Welcome Talk.
It’s a great introduction to Hull College and what you can expect from your time with us, as well as giving you some useful information before you start exploring the campus.
Once the talk has finished, you can head off and explore at your own pace.
5. Explore Our Courses & Campus
This is your chance to get a real feel for what life at Hull College could be like.
Visit the areas you’re interested in, meet our tutors and curriculum teams, take part in activities and demonstrations, and explore the specialist facilities and workshops where you could be learning.
Don’t just stick to the prospectus – come and see where your course could take you.
6. Keep an Open Mind
It’s great to have an idea of what you want to study, but don’t be afraid to explore something different.
You might discover a course or career you hadn’t considered before, or find out that a subject you thought wasn’t for you is actually right up your street.
Take your time, have a look around, and see what catches your attention. You never know what you might discover.
7. Ask Questions
This is your opportunity to ask anything you want to know – so don’t be afraid to ask.
Not sure what a typical week looks like? Want to know where a course could take you? Wondering about entry requirements, apprenticeships, student finance or the support available?
Our tutors, students, and support teams are here to help, so make the most of them.
There’s no such thing as a silly question when you’re making an important decision about your future.
8. Write Down What You Learned
It’s easy to take in lots of information during an Open Event and forget some of it afterwards.
Make a note of the courses you liked, things that stood out, questions you still have and anything that surprised you.
You might even want to write down how each area made you feel. Which course could you see yourself enjoying? Where could you picture yourself studying? Which career options caught your attention?
Taking a few notes will make it much easier to compare your options when you get home.
