Courses at The Institute of Skills for Living are delivered in a purpose-built resource centre which houses a first-class facility that allows learners to access a modern, safe, friendly, supportive and secure learning environment, along with adapted and specialist materials/equipment. Our smaller than average class sizes mean that SEND learners are able to access individual support and exceptional pastoral care immediately, away from the hustle and bustle of the college’s main Tower Block.
The focus of our study programmes - suitable for those who may have a range of mild learning difficulties and/or disabilities - is to embed independence and employability skills to enable our learners to secure positive and meaningful progression, be that into independent living or the workplace through vocational study within other specialist areas across the college.
Hull College offers outstanding specialist facilities for use by students studying all courses.
Our purpose-built TV studio boasts three cameras, wireless microphones, a full lighting rig and a green screen wall and has the ability to broadcast live on various social media platforms.
Our range of music studio spaces and modern production equipment will allow you to see your audio projects all the way through from composition and recording, to mixing, mastering and post-production.
Our state-of-the-art modern dance/drama studios have a sprung floor, mirrored wall, playback for sound and ballet bars. The light, open space on the first floor of the Horncastle Building is perfect for dance and exercise classes, along with professional training.
Situated in the Horncastle Building on the college’s main Queen’s Gardens campus, the HU1 Riverside Theatre has racked seating for 200 people, or the space can be used as a flat floor space with a flexible stage area. The theatre includes professional lighting and playback for sound, and is an space ideal for drama and dance groups, team-building and professional development.
The Institute of Arts houses a variety of dedicated workrooms and studios for our range of Art & Design study programmes, each with specialised equipment to support your imagination and creativity. These include print studios, dye labs, photography suite with industry standard photographic and lighting equipment, fashion workshop with specialist machinery and mannequins, as well as an extensive 3D workshop and CAD facilities. Our studios are equipped with Mac Desktops and PCs, with full access to the latest Adobe Creative Cloud (including Photoshop & Illustrator) to develop your studies using the latest digital software.
