We offer a wide range of full-time study programmes from level 1 through to level 7, along with Digital Marketer and Junior Content Producer apprenticeship roles, which will provide you with the perfect opportunity to begin your journey or enhance the skills and knowledge you already possess.

ESOL

If English isn't your first language, and you want to improve your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills, our English for Speakers of Other Languages course will equip you with the necessary skills to further your employment and life in the UK.

Courses start throughout the year on a monthly basis. If you'd like to study an ESOL course, apply on this page and we’ll arrange for an initial skills check to make sure you're studying on the right course and the next available start date.

After studying ESOL, you may feel ready to progress to a vocational course the following year. We have a variety of courses to support you to achieve your aim - whether that is to continue in education and find employment.

Adult English & Maths

English and maths are important life skills that will benefit you in many ways - and it’s never too late to improve them.

Our adult English and maths courses are designed for adult students wanting to continue their education, retrain, develop within their career or simply wanting to refresh existing skills. Whether you left education early or didn’t get the grades you expected, we are on hand to help and support you to maximise your potential in a supportive and welcoming atmosphere.

Whatever your starting point, we have a range of options for you to consider with all courses run on a part-time basis on different days and times throughout the week to help fit your learning in and around your work and family commitments.

Facilities

When you enrol at Hull College, you’ll not only benefit from excellent teaching by our friendly and experienced tutors but also our excellent learning facilities too.

Courses at The Institute of Skills for Living are delivered in a purpose-built resource centre which houses a first-class facility that allows learners to access a modern, safe, friendly, supportive and secure learning environment, along with adapted and specialist materials/equipment. Our smaller than average class sizes mean that SEND learners are able to access individual support and exceptional pastoral care immediately, away from the hustle and bustle of the college’s main Tower Block.

The focus of our study programmes - suitable for those who may have a range of mild learning difficulties and/or disabilities - is to embed independence and employability skills to enable our learners to secure positive and meaningful progression, be that into independent living or the workplace through vocational study within other specialist areas across the college.

Our facilities include:

  • Study centre for students wanting study skills/homework support with hidden disabilities
  • Domestic independent living kitchen/flat
  • Wellbeing room with pool table
  • Quiet room
  • SEND Room within 14-16 College
  • Supervised breaks during the day
  • Supervised lunch and breakfast clubs for young people needing monitoring across breaks
  • Guide dog pound / sensory garden
  • Transport team also monitor learners arriving and leaving college who are transported in by Local Authority
  • IT Software is available for visually impaired young people and young people with Dyslexia
  • All sites are accessible to wheelchair users
  • Disabled parking spaces
  • Large disabled toilets with hoist at Queen’s Gardens campus
  • Lift access to all floors
  • Dedicated transport/mini bus bays
  • Automatic toilet
  • Deaf alerter system
  • Hearing loops are available
  • Dedicated Specialist Learning Centre that can be accessed by all learners who are visually impaired and/or have a hearing impairment that offers training and loan of the latest adaptive technology.

Facilities

Hull College offers outstanding specialist facilities for use by students studying all courses.

TV Studio

Our purpose-built TV studio boasts three cameras, wireless microphones, a full lighting rig and a green screen wall and has the ability to broadcast live on various social media platforms.

Music Studio

Our range of music studio spaces and modern production equipment will allow you to see your audio projects all the way through from composition and recording, to mixing, mastering and post-production.

Dance/Drama Studios

Our state-of-the-art modern dance/drama studios have a sprung floor, mirrored wall, playback for sound and ballet bars. The light, open space on the first floor of the Horncastle Building is perfect for dance and exercise classes, along with professional training.

HU1 Riverside Theatre

Situated in the Horncastle Building on the college’s main Queen’s Gardens campus, the HU1 Riverside Theatre has racked seating for 200 people, or the space can be used as a flat floor space with a flexible stage area. The theatre includes professional lighting and playback for sound, and is an space ideal for drama and dance groups, team-building and professional development.

Workrooms & Studio

The Institute of Arts houses a variety of dedicated workrooms and studios for our range of Art & Design study programmes, each with specialised equipment to support your imagination and creativity. These include print studios, dye labs, photography suite with industry standard photographic and lighting equipment, fashion workshop with specialist machinery and mannequins, as well as an extensive 3D workshop and CAD facilities. Our studios are equipped with Mac Desktops and PCs, with full access to the latest Adobe Creative Cloud (including Photoshop & Illustrator) to develop your studies using the latest digital software.

With excellent teachers and resources, you will have the opportunity to develop your English skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing.

Our adult ESOL programmes are designed to be flexible, fitting around your particular commitments and circumstances.

Adult English & MAths

A GCSE in maths or English is required for most jobs or further study. These qualifications will open up many possibilities for a future career.

There are a range of times available (mornings, afternoons and evenings) to help you fit learning in and around work, family and other commitments.
