FD Fine Art

The Foundation Degree in Fine Art is an exciting, practice-led programme designed for aspiring artists who want to develop their creative identity and professional skills within a vibrant, contemporary context. You’ll explore a broad range of fine art practices — from traditional disciplines such as painting, drawing, print and sculpture to digital, performance, VR, and AI-based art — developing the technical expertise and conceptual understanding needed to thrive as a practising artist. The course combines studio-based learning, seminars, and tutorials to help you build confidence, refine your creative voice, and engage critically with the wider art world. You’ll gain valuable real-world experience through live projects, exhibitions, and collaborations with external partners including The Ferens Art Gallery, HARI, Humber Street Gallery, and local schools and community organisations. Professional practice is embedded throughout the programme, preparing you for life as a working artist, freelancer, or creative entrepreneur. You’ll learn how to research and respond to funding opportunities, present work to potential employers and galleries, and navigate the professional landscape of the arts. On successful completion, you’ll have the option to progress onto the BA (Hons) Fine Art Top-Up year to achieve a full honours degree, or step directly into employment or self-employment within the creative and cultural industries.

UCAS provides support for young people making post-18 choices, as well as mature learners, by providing information, advice, and guidance to inspire and facilitate educational progression to university, college, or a degree apprenticeship.

Loan eligibility does not depend on your income and there are no credit checks.

Your loan will be written off if you then sign up for a Higher Education course AND you have completed in full the Access to HE course.
