The Humber’s brightest minds and boldest leaders were celebrated at Hull College last week (Wednesday 23rd April) as part of a glittering gala dinner that shone a spotlight on regional innovation and economic resilience.
The Humber Visionaries Gala Dinner brought together changemakers from across Hull and East Yorkshire in recognition of their efforts to build a better, greener, and more prosperous future for the region.
Hosted by Councillor Anne Handley – leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council – the exclusive black-tie event honoured the businesses, innovators, entrepreneurs, and leaders who are driving economic progress and shaping the future of the Humber region. The evening provided an opportunity to reflect on the region’s shared successes and look ahead to a future filled with possibility and promise.
Guests were treated to an exceptional seven-course meal prepared and served by the talented students and staff at Bilocca, Hull College’s on-site training restaurant. Their creativity and professionalism impressed all in attendance, showcasing the next generation of skilled professionals making their mark in the hospitality industry.
The evening’s keynote address was delivered by Richard Askam, the visionary behind Coca-Cola’s global ‘Share a Coke’ campaign and a champion of sustainable innovation. In a powerful and thought-provoking speech, Richard introduced guests to Projekt Renewable – a pioneering pilot project based at Alexandra Dock in Grimsby, designed to engage local communities in the Humber’s green energy transition. He shared how the project is sparking vital conversations about future skills, empowering young people, and showcasing how similar initiatives could be rolled out across the region and beyond.
Debra Gray MBE, Principal and CEO of Hull College, praised the evening’s success and the people it celebrated. She said: “The Humber Visionaries Gala Dinner was a celebration of everything that’s bold, brilliant, and uniquely Humber. It was a truly special evening that shone a well-deserved spotlight on the incredible people and organisations shaping the future of our region. From business to community leadership, and from education to innovation, the Humber is thriving because of its passionate and driven people.
“At Hull College, we are fiercely proud of our city and our region – and even prouder to work shoulder-to-shoulder with those helping to transform lives and create opportunities every single day. That’s why we created the Humber Visionaries Awards: to say thank you. Their impact matters. They are seen. And our awards evening provided the perfect setting to celebrate their brilliance, their resilience, and the powerful, often unsung, contribution they make to our communities and the future of the Humber. Together, we are building something truly extraordinary here in the Humber – and the best is yet to come.”
Councillor Anne Handley, who guided guests through the evening with warmth and pride, added: “It was a privilege to host the first-ever Humber Visionaries Gala Dinner and to celebrate the businesses and people who are helping to shape a brighter future for our region. Events like this are vital for recognising the impact of collaboration, innovation, and leadership, and I’m proud to champion a region so full of promise, potential, and positivity.”
The Humber Visionaries Gala Dinner was more than just an evening of celebration – it was a powerful reminder that the Humber’s true strength lies in its people – bold thinkers, tireless doers, and passionate changemakers. Hull College was proud to play host to such an inspiring gathering and remains committed to championing the partnerships that are powering progress across the region.
