If you are currently working in the construction or engineering sector, or need a flexible route into Higher Education, this part-time course provides the opportunity to develop your technical knowledge while continuing your professional commitments. You will explore engineering principles, construction technology, surveying and structural design, developing a critical understanding of how civil engineering solutions are applied within industry. The programme is structured to provide a progressive learning journey. You will begin by developing core engineering knowledge and analytical skills before moving into more specialist study, applying your learning through project-based assignments and independent enquiry. Studying part time allows you to reflect on your professional experience alongside your academic development, strengthening your understanding of real-world engineering practice. Your learning will combine tutor-led teaching with guided independent study, encouraging you to develop research skills, professional communication and critical thinking. Assessment is coursework-based, reflecting industry expectations and supporting your progression into employment or honours degree study.

It is important to note that when you enrol on an Access to HE courseyou can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to help with the costs of a course at a college or training provider in England.

Loan eligibility does not depend on your income and there are no credit checks.

Check if you’re eligible before you apply for an Advanced Learner Loan.

Your loan will be written off if you then sign up for a Higher Education course AND you have completed in full the Access to HE course.
