THe Details

This course provides you with an introduction to bricklaying if you are new to the construction industry. It focuses on developing your basic skills and knowledge so you can work safely and effectively in a workshop environment, while preparing you for progression into further training or employment within the trade. Learning takes place in industry-standard workshops, where you will practise core bricklaying skills such as laying bricks and blocks, mixing and using mortar, building simple wall structures, and following basic construction drawings. Alongside practical work, you will develop your understanding of health and safety requirements, teamwork, and how the construction industry operates. The course also covers setting out, achieving accurate levels and finishes, and working efficiently while maintaining quality standards. By the end of the course, you will have built a strong foundation of practical ability and underpinning knowledge to support progression to further study, such as Level 2 Bricklaying, or entry-level opportunities in the construction sector.

UCAS provides support for young people making post-18 choices, as well as mature learners, by providing information, advice, and guidance to inspire and facilitate educational progression to university, college, or a degree apprenticeship.

It is important to note that when you enrol on an Access to HE courseyou can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to help with the costs of a course at a college or training provider in England.

Loan eligibility does not depend on your income and there are no credit checks.

Check if you’re eligible before you apply for an Advanced Learner Loan.

Your loan will be written off if you then sign up for a Higher Education course AND you have completed in full the Access to HE course.
