award highlights
The college was immensely proud to be awarded a Queen Elizabeth Prize for Further and Higher Education, the highest national honour a Further Education college can receive.
This prestigious recognition celebrated our pioneering work in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), digital inclusion, and the transformative programme ‘Silent Voices, Vivid Stories’, which is creating life-changing learning opportunities for refugee and migrant communities.
Part of the UK’s national honours system, the Queen Elizabeth Prizes are awarded every two years by the Sovereign on the advice of the Prime Minister, recognising colleges and universities demonstrating excellence, innovation, and tangible benefit to society.
As one of only four FE colleges recognised among 19 national winners in 2025, the award reaffirmed our position as a national leader in innovation, social mobility, and inclusive education.
Hull College celebrated yet another triumph as it was crowned FE College of the Year at the Educate North Awards 2024!
Selected by a judging panel drawn from business and academia, we were recognised for our remarkable transformation over the previous 18 months, along with our unwavering commitment to delivering high-quality education and training.
Led by a new leadership team, this period of rapid improvement drove significant enhancements in teaching, learning, and the overall student experience.
Judges highlighted a number of key achievements, including a top 25% national ranking for student success, alongside a ‘Good’ Ofsted rating with ‘Outstanding’ adult provision and a ‘Strong’ rating for meeting regional and national skills needs – marking our strongest Ofsted outcome since 2008.
We were named winners of the ‘Outstanding Contribution’ award at the HullBID Awards, recognising the college’s remarkable impact on the local community.
Selected by an independent judging panel, the college secured the award ahead of fellow finalists The Deep and Ferens Art Gallery.
Judges highlighted our strong commitment to community engagement, particularly the successful integration of a new work experience programme across its curriculum.
Through a wide range of meaningful projects and partnerships, our students contributed more than 8,000 hours of community work, supporting local organisations while developing vital employability skills.
