Held throughout the year, Open Events at Hull College provide potential students with the opportunity to meet tutors, look around the campus, and apply for the course they’d like to enrol upon.

Choosing a college should be about more than just location and course. It's about envisioning yourself there for the next couple of years and ensuring your chosen course aligns with your future aspirations. That’s why we run our series of Discover Hull College Open Events each and every year!

And they’re not just for school leavers! If you are an adult learner, our event is the perfect opportunity to find out how we can support you to step back into education. We have a range of part-time courses that can support your career ambitions, including our degree-level study options.

Discover Hull College Open Events

Our Open Events promise to be an engaging experience, designed with a sole focus to assist you - prospective students - in finding your perfect educational pathway. They provide you with the ideal opportunity to get a feel for what life is like at college, as well as finding out more about all the course options and career choices available to you at Hull College.

If you’re interested in studying one of our technical and professional courses, including T Levels and A Levels, are thinking about returning to education or perhaps contemplating one of our Higher Education courses, then make sure you come along to one of our Open Events on the dates below for all the information you need.

Our Queen’s Gardens will welcome visitors on Thursday 12th October, Tuesday 14th November, Tuesday 5th December, Tuesday 16th January, Thursday 21st March (all 5:30pm - 7:30pm) and Saturday 18th May (10:30am - 1pm).

What to Expect at one of our Open Events

Open events are basically your chance to have a nosey around the college’s facilities to see if you like it before applying. It only takes an hour of your time and means you’ll be able to get your bearings around the campus so that you don’t feel like a fish out of water when it comes to starting your course in September 2024.

While you may already have a course in mind, our Open Events are your chance to delve deeper. Discover more about the finer details of your chosen course(s) - its structure, content, and the innovative teaching methods employed. As Hull College places a strong emphasis on hands-on learning, immerse yourself in interactive demonstrations and preview the cutting-edge technology and specialised equipment you'll soon be using.

On the night/day, our tutors will be on hand to address any queries you might have. Seek their guidance on whether the course aligns with your learning style and future aspirations, ensuring your decision is well-informed and aligned with your career goals and aims.

Worried about attending alone? You don't have to! Bring along your friends who share your interests and aspirations, and you can explore the college together. Alternatively, come with a parent, guardian, or an older sibling who's been through the college experience - their insights can be invaluable.

How to Make the Most of Your Visit to Hull College

Our events are packed with opportunities to get all the information you need to make the right choices about your next steps, whether you're a school leaver thinking about a Further Education course or an Apprenticeship or adult learner looking to get back into education or wanting more information on our degree-level courses.

We want you to get the most out of your experience with us, so have put together some useful hints and tips to help make sure your trip to see us is as successful as possible.

Plan Your Visit

We always anticipate our open events to be busy, so try and plan which subject areas you would like to visit and all the courses you would like to get more information on. All subject areas available to study at the college will be present at open events, so make sure you have a think about what you want to get out of the visit and the key bits of information that you want to know.

Arrive Early

Make sure you get here as early as you can to make the most of our event! Free parking is available at our Queen’s Gardens campus (HU1 3DG) and, once you’re here, all you have to do is head to the Tower Block to sign in before exploring all the course areas of interest to you.

Attend One of our ‘Discover Talks’

One member from our Senior Leadership Team will be on hand at each event to give you a warm welcome and explain more about life at Hull College, our study programmes and how we can help you on your next steps. These will take place in Elevate (located in our Chesters Building) at 5:45pm, 6:15pm & 6:45pm on night events, and 10:45am, 11:15am and 11:45am at our daytime events.

Speak to our Tutors

Course tutors will be present to talk to you and your parents about the ins and outs of the course, entry requirements, what the courses actually include, and all the progression options available at the college to help you get career-ready. They will be on hand to offer any advice and guidance you need, as well as answer any questions you may have.

Explore our Facilities

As a student studying at Hull College, you will have access to a whole host of amazing facilities – whatever course you choose to study! From a dedicated bricklaying building to our clinical skills room (Health and Social Care), training kitchens and restaurant, in-house salon, and our impressive recently redesigned Elevate study spaces, there is so much to discover!

Ask all the Right Questions

We encourage you to be curious and thorough when exploring your options. Make sure you ask about things that could influence your decision - for example does the course include any written exams? How much of the course is practical and how much is theoretical? What will your timetable look like? Also make sure you take down the tutors’ name and e-mail address in case you think of any other questions when you get home. Remember, there’s no such thing as a daft question when it comes to your future.
