Hair and Make-Up students at Hull College were proud to support Dove House Hospice's charity event - Strictly Learn To Dance - last week.

The competition, hosted each year by charity Dove House Hospice, involves 24 members of the public paired up in 12 couples. Each pairing learnt two dances, which they then performed - in front of a live audience on Friday night at the Hull City Hall.

In total, 11 Level 3 Theatrical Make-up Artist and Level 2 Hairdressing students gave up their Friday night to help provide hair and make-up services so that the volunteers could look their very best as they performed at the glittering event. The students were: Chloe Parry, Bethany Allen, Abigail Dimaline, Katie Fewlass, Paige Penn, Amy Turner, Jordan Yardley, Sadie Nichols, Amy Grant, Sarah Morgan-Jenney and Caitlin Hill, supported by staff members Amanda Reeve and Cleo Whitehead.

The event has been supported by The Institute of Health & Lifestyle for several years now, with a focus on raising vital funds for the hospice.

Speaking after the event, Advance Make-Up Tutor Amanda Reeve said: "It's great to be back supporting this event, which unfortunately had to be cancelled for the past two years due to Covid-19. It was a busy evening for our students, but also an inspiring one that provided an excellent experience for them all. Students were able to work on client's specific briefs to create an overall look, blending both hair and make-up skills together.”

It was very pleasing to hear that all students involved enjoyed the experience and were outstanding ambassadors for the college from start to finish. At the time of writing, the event had managed to raise an amazing £38,000 for the charity with donations still coming in!
