16-year-old Thomas Garton is studying Electrotechnical, and here he reflects on his first experiences as a Hull College student…
I enjoyed my first week, which was mainly focused on helping us to acclimatising to life as a Hull College student.
Everyone at the college went above and beyond to make sure all students are well-informed about the wide variety of support available to students - along with what’s expected of us. It was also great getting to know the names and faces of some of the key people at the college, including my Electrotechnical tutor.
He's been nothing short of fantastic, making it clear that he's here to support each and every one of us on the course and he’ll be happy to help whenever we need any advice or assistance. It’s been the perfect introduction to life at the college so that I know what is happening and what will be happening as I progress through my course.
I’m very much looking forward to my course, even though it has opened my eyes to the amount of work involved. I’m fine with that though and ready to take on the challenges that lie ahead. I can't wait to dive into the hands-on aspect of my course!
I decided to pursue the Electrotechnical course because it's the perfect stepping stone on my path to becoming an electrician. Hull College provides a fantastic learning environment, especially for students like me in this field. The facilities are spot-on, and I believe it's the best place to build and develop my skills. The reason I'm pursuing a career as an electrician is simple - it's a valuable trade, always in demand, and one that I'm determined to excel in it!
