My First Week: Brianna Hodgson

Former Hessle High pupil Brianna Hodgson started her Level 2 Health and Social Care course last week, and here she reflects on her first experiences of life as a student at Hull College…

My first week has been great and I’ve really enjoyed the experience so far. I can already tell that it's a more relaxed environment compared to the structured setting of school, and this shift really appeals to me. I've been pleasantly surprised at how much students here are treated like adults!

We've had a fantastic introduction to life at Hull College this week. We've met the safeguarding team, had a chat with one of the vice-principals, and enjoyed a tour of the campus so that we all know where we’re going when on-site.

It’s also great to have had the opportunity to get know our tutors and find out even more about the course. We’ve been given an in-depth overview of what to expect and the range of topics we'll be delving into, so I feel well-prepared for what lies ahead.

One aspect I'm really excited about is the work placement element of my course. Combining studying at college with getting hands-on experience is a great opportunity, and something that I know will only benefit me in the long run. It was one of the key factors in my decision to come and study Health and Social Care at Hull College.

My mum is a Domestic Violence Practitioner and I'd love to follow in her footsteps. From speaking with and listening to her, I've learned that the role can be challenging at times but I see how much enjoyment she gets from helping people, which is something that really appeals to me as well.
