This course provides a comprehensive introduction to digital and IT skills, designed to help you build practical knowledge, technical ability, and confidence using technology. It is suitable if you are looking to develop core digital skills for further study, improve your employability, or prepare for entry-level roles in the digital and IT sector. Learning is delivered through a blend of classroom-based teaching and hands-on practical work. You will use industry-relevant software and digital tools to explore key areas including computer programming, website design, digital graphics, games development, cyber security, and IT technical support. Through practical activities and projects, you will learn how digital technologies are applied in real workplace contexts. Alongside technical skills, the course places strong emphasis on developing transferable workplace skills such as problem-solving, communication, teamwork, time management, and project planning. A dedicated digital skills project allows you to bring together your learning by completing a practical, real-world task and producing a portfolio of evidence that demonstrates your progress and achievements. Assessment is ongoing and based on assignments and portfolio work rather than formal exams, enabling you to demonstrate your skills in a supportive and practical way. Throughout the course, you will receive regular feedback to help you reflect on your development and improve your performance. The course also supports progression by helping you explore further study options, apprenticeships, and employment opportunities within the digital and IT sector.

UCAS provides support for young people making post-18 choices, as well as mature learners, by providing information, advice, and guidance to inspire and facilitate educational progression to university, college, or a degree apprenticeship.

We support 1.5 million students every year to explore entering higher education, employment and apprenticeships and manage almost three million applications, from around 700,000 people each year, for full-time undergraduate courses at over 380 universities and colleges across the UK.

It is important to note that when you enrol on an Access to HE courseyou can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to help with the costs of a course at a college or training provider in England.

Loan eligibility does not depend on your income and there are no credit checks.

Check if you’re eligible before you apply for an Advanced Learner Loan.

Your loan will be written off if you then sign up for a Higher Education course AND you have completed in full the Access to HE course.
