THe Details

This programme provides a solid introduction to the skills and knowledge needed for a career in the motor vehicle industry. It is designed to help you build confidence working in a garage environment, using tools and equipment correctly, and understanding the basic principles behind how vehicles operate. You will explore key topics such as engine components, braking systems, steering and suspension, tyres, electrics, and routine vehicle servicing. Learning is delivered through a combination of classroom theory and practical workshop activities. In the workshop, you’ll gain hands-on experience carrying out basic maintenance tasks, identifying faults, and working safely around vehicles. Classroom sessions complement this practical work by developing your understanding of vehicle systems, automotive technology, and industry standards. You will be assessed through practical tasks, written work, and online tests to demonstrate your growing skills and knowledge. On successful completion, you will be well prepared to progress onto Level 2 study in Automotive Maintenance and Repair or an automotive apprenticeship, providing a strong foundation for a career as a skilled technician.

UCAS provides support for young people making post-18 choices, as well as mature learners, by providing information, advice, and guidance to inspire and facilitate educational progression to university, college, or a degree apprenticeship.

We support 1.5 million students every year to explore entering higher education, employment and apprenticeships and manage almost three million applications, from around 700,000 people each year, for full-time undergraduate courses at over 380 universities and colleges across the UK.

It is important to note that when you enrol on an Access to HE courseyou can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to help with the costs of a course at a college or training provider in England.

Loan eligibility does not depend on your income and there are no credit checks.

Check if you’re eligible before you apply for an Advanced Learner Loan.

Your loan will be written off if you then sign up for a Higher Education course AND you have completed in full the Access to HE course.
