THe Details

The OCR Extended Certificate is a different type of science course that prepares you for further study by improving your study skills, practical work and research skills. Rather than repeating theoretical concepts in science that you may have studied before, this qualification will provide you with practical experience in science labs, teach you how to correctly record, process and present scientific data from experiments and carry out research into human health. All this is assessed through written reports and analysis of your work, without the need for final exams. This course is the equivalent to two GCSE’s and can provide direct access to studying level 3 (A-level equivalent) science at Hull College, while also giving you the opportunity to improve your English and Maths grades. The course is designed to open up different areas of scientific development and build a wider understanding of the important role science plays in society. The government estimate that young people with 5 GCSE’s can earn up to £2000 more in starting salary when they enter the job market. Completing the OCR Technical Extended Certificate in Science, along with GCSE Maths and English, can help open the door to a wide range of possible career paths or progression to higher level courses. 4 Unit assignments, 100% internally assessed coursework: Unit 1: Science of the Earth Unit 2: Collecting and Presenting Data Unit 5: Communicating Science Unit 8: Science of Health
