So, you’re thinking about your next step - exciting times! But with so many options out there, how do you know which college, course, or pathway is right for you? That’s where our Open Events come in!

They’re the perfect opportunity to explore Hull College, get to know the people behind the prospectus, and picture yourself as part of our ‘Hullraisers’ community.

And the good news? Our first Open Event of the year is happening at our Queen’s Gardens campus on Tuesday 7th October, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. It’s the ideal chance to come along, look around, and start finding out which course - and which future - feels right for you.

To help you make the most of your visit, we’ve pulled together our top seven tips. Think of this as your cheat sheet for getting the best out of an Open Event – because trust us, there’s plenty to see, do, and discover!

1 | Get Prepared

A little planning goes a long way. Before the event, jot down the subjects you’re most curious about and any big questions you’d like answered. That way, you won’t leave wishing you’d asked about entry requirements, career options, or what a typical timetable looks like.

2 | Bring Someone Along

It’s totally normal to feel a bit nervous at an Open Event. That’s why bringing a parent, guardian, or even a friend can be a game-changer. They can help boost your confidence, spot things you might miss, or ask the questions you forget. Plus, having someone you trust to bounce ideas off makes decision-making much easier.

3 | Keep an Open Mind

It’s easy to arrive with one course in mind, but don’t be surprised if something else grabs your attention along the way. Open Events are full of opportunities you might not have thought about yet, and every subject area has something unique to offer. Take your time to explore, ask questions, and wander into areas you might not have planned to visit - you never know what could spark your next big idea.

4 | Get a Feel for College Life

Scrolling through our website or socials is a great starting point, but nothing beats experiencing college in person. At an Open Event, you’ll get to see our campus up close, chat to tutors, and even meet current students who can give you the lowdown on what life at Hull College is really like.

Think of it as your sneak peek into your future - the atmosphere, the vibe, and whether it feels like the right fit for you.

5 | Ask Questions (Lots of Them!)

This is your chance to find out everything you want to know - no question is too big or too small. Wondering what your weekly schedule might look like? Curious about what support services are available? Not sure where the course could lead career-wise?

Chat to lecturers, students, our careers advisor, and/or support staff - they’ve got the answers. And remember, this is your future, so don’t be shy about asking the questions that matter most to you.

6 | Pick Up a Copy of Our New Prospectus

Before you leave, make sure you grab a copy of our new freshly printed 2026/27 Prospectus. It’s packed with course info and other useful details, so you don’t have to rely on memory alone. Think of it as your go-to handbook when you’re weighing up your options at home.

7 | Learn How to Apply

Fallen in love with a course? Brilliant! Head over to our “Application Zone” during the event and our Admissions team will walk you through the process step by step. They can even help you get your application submitted on the spot. That’s one less thing to add to your to-do list!
