14-16 College students’ love of snacks has seen them raise a substantial amount of money to put towards the cost of their end of year Prom.

Run by entrepreneurial Year 11 students Caitlin Bell and Tyler Harrison during break time (11:15am - 11:30am) each day, the tuck shop has already surpassed its initial target of £200 - with a month remaining in the summer term.

All funds raised will go directly towards the costs of the annual 14-16 Prom, which will see a reduction in the cost of tickets for students to attend and will help with the purchase of additional features such as balloon arches on entry, mocktails on arrival, and chair covers to make the night extra special for our leavers.

Reflecting on the success of the tuck shop, Caitlin and Tyler said: "It's been a great experience for both of us. We've benefitted personally in terms of improving our maths skills and it's helped us both in terms of our social skills as well, by getting to talk to and interact with new people.

"More importantly, it's raising vital funds for the 14-16 Prom. The original price of tickets was due to be £25, so we wanted to do our bit to contribute and try to get that price down by raising money through various activities.

"We spoke to Alex Reveley (Head of 14-16 College) about the possibility of starting up a tuck shop for staff and students at 14-16 College and got the go-ahead. We borrowed some money - only £25 - to get the initial stock in and have paid that back now. It has proved popular with both staff and students and in total, we've already raised more than £200, all of which will help towards the cost of the Prom."
