Leja Sleiniute and Lewis Noonan have made it to the final stages of the AoC’s prestigious Student of the Year awards, showcasing the college’s commitment to nurturing exceptional talent.

Leja Sleiniute, 19, has been shortlisted for the Apprentice of the Year award. Currently working as a Marketing Assistant at Caremark East Yorkshire, Leja is in the process of completing her Level 3 Content Creator Apprenticeship. Her hard work, dedication, and passion for success have earned her a place in the spotlight.

Speaking about Leja’s achievements, Skills Coach Andrew Sanders said: “Every now and then, you will come across an apprentice who is absolutely peerless. Leja is that apprentice. Her dedication and determination to succeed in her role have already seen her attract praise and recognition from the very highest management levels of her multi-million pound employer. Leja’s tenacity and desire to be the best represent everything an apprentice should be. She is supportive, kind, and considerate and has progressed more in the space of 10 months than most university students manage in 3 years.”

Meanwhile, 33-year-old Lewis Noonan has been shortlisted for the Adult Student of the Year award. Lewis has consistently demonstrated academic excellence and leadership during his time at Hull College, earning distinctions and serving as a mentor to younger peers.

Alexios Gatzoyas, who has worked closely with Lewis as his Media tutor, praised his commitment: “His critical thinking skills, coupled with an unwavering enthusiasm for creativity and digital production, have made him a standout student. His work consistently earns distinctions, underscoring his academic excellence and commitment. Lewis’ impact extends far beyond his academic achievements. He is a beacon of support and mentorship within the college community, particularly for his younger peers. His compassion and willingness to guide others highlight his leadership qualities. Lewis epitomizes the qualities of an exceptional Hull College student, inspiring others through his journey and actions.”

The AoC Student of the Year awards celebrate outstanding individuals from colleges across England, recognizing their achievements, talents, and dedication. The awards highlight the positive impact that students like Leja and Lewis have on their colleges and communities.

Finalists will be announced on 16th October on the AoC’s social media platforms and website. These finalists will be invited to attend the AoC Conference dinner on 12th November, where the winners will be revealed. The winners will also have the honour of attending an awards celebration event at the House of Commons on 3rd March 2025.
