Hull College was proud to host the final eFIXX College Connections Roadshow of 2025 on Tuesday - an inspiring, high-impact enrichment event designed to give our Electrical students and apprentices access to real-world industry expertise, tools, and technology.
The eFIXX College Connections Roadshow, created by eFIXX - The Electricians’ Channel, exists to bring added value to electrical education by going beyond the standard curriculum. The initiative supports Further Education lecturers while giving learners enhanced practical experience, industry insights, and exposure to professional-grade equipment they don’t always encounter in the classroom.
The event kicked off with an inspiring keynote by eFIXX co-founder Gary Hayers, titled ‘Making the Most of Your Opportunity in the Electrical Industry.’ His talk encouraged learners to think about how they can access free training, stand out, and succeed in this fast-moving sector.
A fantastic turnout saw 140 learners taking part across the day, bringing together students from Level 1 full-time courses through to third-year apprentices. This mix of experience levels created a dynamic learning environment where everyone could benefit from shared skills, hands-on practice, and exposure to real industry techniques.
Students then took part in interactive workshops led by industry professionals, covering key topics such as:
Ethan Wynter (Socket & See) - leading an in-depth session on safe isolation, giving learners essential knowledge of safety procedures and testing equipment.
John Ford, Paul Appleby, and Chris Sharkey (Robus) - providing insights into lighting design, exploring modern solutions, installation best practices, and emerging technologies.
Michael Madigan and Tim Beeching (TLC) - showcasing Quinetic smart systems, demonstrating how wireless switching technology is transforming electrical installations.
Phillip Hague (Test Rigs UK) - offering practical guidance on the latest testing rigs and how they support high-quality skills development in the workshop environment.
Steven Robinson MIET (Niglon) - sharing professional expertise on key industry products and standards, helping learners connect theoretical knowledge with real-world application.
Learners got hands-on with a wide range of tools and materials brought to Hull College through eFIXX’s strong network of industry brand partners, who generously donated products and resources to enrich workshop activity.
Reflecting on the day, Gary said: “Hull College was a brilliant venue for the final stop on our eFIXX college connections roadshow in 2025. The students were engaged, enthusiastic, and eager to get hands-on with every activity. Events like this thrive when learners are curious and willing to challenge themselves - and the team here should be incredibly proud of the culture they’ve built and the future electricians they are shaping.”
Electrical tutor Paul Adams highlighted the impact of the experience on learners: “The roadshow was a brilliant opportunity for our students to broaden their understanding of the industry. Having access to the tools, materials, and knowledge that Gary and eFIXX bring really helps bridge the gap between training and real-world practice. It’s exactly the kind of enrichment that motivates learners and raises aspirations.”
From practical demonstrations to expert insights, the roadshow delivered a powerful reminder of the importance of industry collaboration in Further Education. By connecting students with leading brands, current technologies, and experienced professionals, the event helped strengthen the link between classroom learning and real-world application.
We’d like to extend our thanks to Gary Hayers and the eFIXX team for choosing Hull College to feature as part of the roadshow, and for their continued commitment to supporting aspiring electricians nationwide.
