The Association of Colleges (AoC) has announced their commended colleges for the 2022/23 Beacon Awards, with Hull College among those included in the RCU Award for Support for Students category.

The college has been commended for its ‘exceptional and innovative whole college approach to student support in 14-16 education’.

The 14-16 College at Hull College involves more than 160 students, 100 employers and two LEP partnerships each year, and has now been operating with exceptional success for the last eight years. During this time, it has supported more than 1350 young people to thrive in a learning environment that has enabled them to improve their personal skills, academic and practical skills and progression opportunities.

This year’s AoC Beacon Awards programme has 12 categories to celebrate the best and most innovative practice among UK colleges each year. The award seeks to recognise, celebrate and promote examples of outstanding student support provided by colleges for a significant group of students, across a whole provision or college wide approach.

Assessors have recommended those applications that should be commended for their practice in each of the award categories, having demonstrated a high level of innovation, impact and sustainability.

Find out more about the excellent work of the commended colleges through their project synopses available on the AOC Beacon Awards website. The finalists in each category will be announced at the AoC Annual Conference on Tuesday 15th November.
