What is Early Years?

Early Years is about so much more than childcare – it’s about helping children grow, discover, and thrive during their most important years. It’s rewarding, inspiring, and full of possibilities.

Across the UK, more than 643,000 people work in childcare professions, with teaching assistants making up the largest group. In Yorkshire & Humber alone, there are almost 38,000 Primary and Nursery Education Teaching Professionals, showing just how many opportunities exist in this vital sector.

At Hull College, we’ll give you the knowledge and practical skills to support children from birth to five, covering everything from development and communication to creativity, play, and safeguarding.

You’ll gain valuable experience through placements in nurseries, schools, and children’s centres, including our on-site nursery. This sector changes lives, creating opportunities and building confidence – and being part of it means you could play a key role in shaping someone’s future.

Join the Journey

At Hull College we’re on a journey. One that will see us bring world class education and skills to Hull and East Yorkshire. We can’t wait for you to join us.

One of the things I’ve valued most about studying at Hull College is the opportunity to combine learning with real, hands-on work experience. Being able to apply what you learn in the classroom to real working environments is incredibly valuable and has helped me build confidence and practical skills. That experience has played a huge role in preparing me for my future and was a key reason I chose to study here.
