From the moment they arrived, students immersed themselves in the energy of the city that never sleeps. Their first evening saw them take in the iconic sights of Times Square before heading up the Empire State Building to enjoy breathtaking views across Manhattan, with stops at the New York Public Library and the Chrysler Building along the way.
100,000 steps across new york
Over the following days, the group clocked up more than 100,000 steps as they explored New York’s most famous landmarks. Highlights included a walk through Central Park, spotting well-known filming locations, strolling along Fifth Avenue, visiting Grand Central Station, and crossing the Brooklyn Bridge for stunning skyline views. Students also experienced the city like locals, travelling on the subway and navigating different neighbourhoods across Manhattan and Brooklyn.
Further exploration took them to Hudson Yards, The High Line, SoHo and Tribeca, alongside visits to iconic locations such as the Ghostbusters headquarters and Friends café building. A particularly powerful moment came at the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, offering students time for reflection before finishing the day with panoramic views from the One World Observatory.
Reflecting on the trip, Michelle Cray, Travel and Tourism tutor at Hull College, said: “This was a truly fantastic experience for our students. Trips like this allow them to see the travel and tourism industry in action, gain confidence navigating a global city, and develop the professional and personal skills they’ll need for their future careers. Watching them grow over just a few days was incredibly rewarding.”
Beyond the landmarks, the experience helped students build independence, teamwork and cultural awareness – key skills for careers in travel, aviation and tourism. It’s experiences like these that set Hull College students apart, combining academic learning with real-world adventure and unforgettable opportunities that inspire ambition and broaden horizons.
