Business and Criminology Students Visit Teesside University
Our Business and Criminology students took part in an inspiring and immersive trip to Teesside University, giving them the opportunity to experience university-level learning while gaining valuable insight into real-world careers and progression routes.
For Business students, the day offered a behind-the-scenes look at entrepreneurship in action. They attended interactive sessions led by real business owners, who shared honest accounts of their professional journeys – from early challenges to long-term success. These first-hand experiences gave students a realistic understanding of what it takes to build and sustain a business, alongside the resilience and adaptability required in today’s competitive landscape.
One Business student said: “Hearing directly from business owners about the setbacks they faced – and how they pushed through – really made it feel achievable. It’s given me more confidence in my own ideas and future career plans.”
Students also took part in an authentic leadership workshop, encouraging them to reflect on their own leadership styles and the importance of integrity, communication, and ethical decision-making. The session challenged students to consider how strong leadership can influence teams, organisations, and wider communities.
From Theory to Practice
Meanwhile, Criminology students were able to bring classroom learning to life during an engaging ‘detect a crime’ workshop. Working through a simulated crime scenario, students analysed evidence, assessed clues, and applied criminological theory to solve the case. This hands-on approach helped deepen their understanding of how theory translates into practice within real investigative contexts.
A Criminology student reflected: “It was great to actually apply what we’ve learned in class to a real scenario. It helped everything click into place and confirmed that this is the kind of work I want to do in the future.”
Adding to the success of the day, two Business students were selected to take part in filmed interviews with Teesside University, where they shared their reflections on the experience and the impact the visit had on their aspirations.
The trip was a fantastic example of how practical learning opportunities can broaden horizons, build confidence, and support informed decision-making about future study and careers. A huge thank you to the staff and students who made the visit such a success – an experience our students took forward as they continued their journey and planned their next steps.
