Course Overview
This course builds the essential skills and knowledge you need to work competently within the motor vehicle industry. It deepens your understanding of modern vehicle technology and prepares you for the practical demands of a professional workshop. You will explore key vehicle systems in greater detail, including engine components, electrical and electronic systems, braking and suspension, transmission, fuel and exhaust systems, and routine servicing procedures.
Learning is delivered through a balanced mix of classroom-based theory and practical workshop sessions. In the classroom, you will study how vehicle systems operate, how faults develop, and the principles behind diagnostic and repair techniques. In the workshop, you will apply this knowledge through hands-on tasks such as fault-finding, part replacement, vehicle inspections, and using industry-standard diagnostic tools and equipment.
Assessment is ongoing and includes practical tasks, written coursework, and online exams, allowing you to demonstrate both your technical understanding and your ability to work safely and effectively on vehicles. On completion, you will be well prepared to progress into a light vehicle maintenance apprenticeship, move into entry-level employment within the motor vehicle sector, or continue your studies on a Level 3 automotive programme.
