Course Overview

This programme helps you build confidence, independence, and essential skills while focusing specifically on a Business and IT pathway. You’ll develop key skills such as communication, teamwork, organisation, and digital literacy, giving you a strong foundation for future study or employment in business-related or IT roles. Learning is tailored to your needs and delivered at a pace that supports your development, helping you grow in confidence as you progress.

At Hull College, you’ll learn in a supportive and inclusive environment with smaller class sizes, where tutors and support staff understand your individual learning needs and provide guidance throughout your studies. Your learning is practical and engaging, using a mix of classroom activities, hands-on tasks, and interactive methods to help you understand how business and IT work in real-world settings. You’ll be introduced to basic business concepts, enterprise skills, and IT tools commonly used in modern workplaces, allowing you to apply your learning to realistic scenarios.

Alongside your vocational learning, you’ll take part in personal development sessions that strengthen your communication, teamwork, confidence, and independence. You may also be involved in enrichment and enterprise activities, such as group projects or college-based initiatives, which help you practise professional behaviours and responsibility in a supported setting. By the end of the programme, you’ll be well prepared to progress onto a Level 2 Business or IT course, a supported internship, or another appropriate vocational pathway that matches your interests and goals.

Each unit is assessed when you are ready to show that you have confidently met the required outcomes, allowing you to progress at a pace that suits you. Throughout the programme, tutors provide regular, personalised feedback to help you recognise your strengths and identify areas for improvement. Your progress is also supported through individual learning plans (ILPs), ensuring you have clear, achievable goals that link to your future progression.
