Here at Hull College, we strive to make our study programmes in Sport as good as we possibly can to enhance the experience for course participants.

A career in Sport is for those who love to be up and active and with an ever-increasing demand for qualified professionals to work in the industry, and there has never been a better time to prepare yourself for a career in this sector.

We offer courses across different levels, giving learners many opportunities to experience a range of activities as part of their studies. Our Sport courses are delivered at the college’s dedicated sports facility, The Steve Prescott Centre. Here, learners develop their own abilities as coaches or instructors, analyse data and experiencing what it’s like to integrate sports theory into practice.

But what do our current Level 3 learners think about their time studying with us and how do they rate their Hull College experience so far? Take a look below to see what three members of our current Level 3 Sport group had to say…

“I didn’t know anyone when I first started, but since the first day I got on well with everyone on the course. I never knew what I wanted to study at college, I’m currently in the Hull Kingston Rovers Academy and one of my coaches recommended and put me in touch with Hull College. The course has been really beneficial and I’ve found I’m able to use the skills I’m learning on the course when I’m training at the Hull KR Academy.

“The course is really enjoyable and the environment here is great. What we are learning is really interesting and we are taught a wide variety to do with sport instead of just one particular area. Studying here isn’t a serious environment like you would think when you think of further education. It’s relaxed and we are treated like adults. I have a really good relationship with the tutors on my course and my fellow students, which is crucial to succeeding.

“If you are shy and find making friends hard then try not to stress too much about it. It’s so easy to make new friends and get on with everyone because, at the end of the day, they have chosen that course for similar reasons to you, so you’ll have that common ground right from the off.

“The tutors are brilliant as well and offer you so much support. One of them has even been helping me look into personal training as well. As well as playing rugby, I am interested in maybe becoming a personal trainer and my tutor has been great with helping me explore this idea and find out more information.”

“I chose Hull College because I wanted to study sport and when the chance came to do so full-time, I just took it. It’s been great ever since! The course can be challenging at times, but I’m managing very well and the tutors are always on hand should I need any help or support.

“My favourite part of the course so far has been learning about the different type of sports injuries. I also really enjoyed the units on nutrition last year. They were really informative and helpful for my own future too as I want to go on and become a nutritionist further down the line.

“Other enjoyable units are the team sports ones with my tutor, Matt. We have to work together as a group and create exercise plans for someone else on the course and then work with them to help complete the plan.

“The aim going forward is to complete my course to distinction level, if not distinction plus, and then go on to study at university. This course has been so beneficial in helping me to achieve my goals and everything I’m learning is helping me to prepare for the next level of education and to go into this field as a future career.”

“I chose Hull College primarily for its location because it was a lot closer to me than other options. I was originally at East Riding College, but it took me over an hour on the bus to get there and back which quickly became annoying and tiring. However, after doing some research, I found out this course was offered here and applied - I haven’t looked back since!

“My time here at college so far has been great, I’ve loved every single day. The course is brilliant and the staff and tutors are really helpful and want to help each and every one of us succeed to help us achieve our goals.

“I love the practical element of the course and being at Hull College provides me with lots of opportunities to be able to play sport and keep active. We have a college football team, which is good, and learners from all areas of the college can come and be part of the team. It’s fun and nice to see and meet learners from other courses as well.

“Coming to college is a social thing as well in my opinion. You get to come in and learn and develop but also speak to and spend time with friends you have made on the course. And the best thing about that is they are just as passionate about sport as I am, which makes learning so much easier and enjoyable in my opinion.

“I’m on track to pass this course and I’m looking towards maybe securing an apprenticeship somewhere after college to begin working in the sports industry. What I love is how the college has helped me and supported me with this, the opportunities the college has created for me is just amazing and I’m very much looking forward to the future.”
