22nd August 2019

On Wednesday 21st August, Hull College hosted a free sports event at the Steve Prescott Centre for learners who are starting their studies next month.

The idea behind the event was to give students a taste of the different experiences they can expect when they join Hull College, gaining an insight to the curriculum structure, enrichment opportunities and involvement with local external agencies.

Youth Workers Kingsley Henderson and Tom Andrews organised the event, offering students the chance to meet course tutors and support staff, along with fellow students who will be on their course.

The event started with a football session with Tigers Trust, where the students played 5-a-side football and showed off their skills on the pitch.

After a quick break, the students made their way over to the Box Clever Bus and got involved with a boxing masterclass, learning different techniques which they then tried out on each other in the ring.

Tom Andrews, Youth Worker at Hull College said "The event was a successful day and it was great to meet the students. We are looking forward to putting on more events throughout the next academic year."

Overall, the event was a fantastic opportunity for the young people to build their confidence by going out of their comfort zone to meet new people and try new things, a brilliant way to ease into the new academic year!
