28th March 2019

Inspirational theatre and dance productions from across the UK come to Hull College.

Working with Absolutely Cultured and IETM, the shows run from 28th March to 30th March and explore the reality of inclusion in today’s societies.

For the arts culture to survive, there needs to be spaces for performances, productions and discussions to happen – and this is what Hull College have provided.

The shows are taking place in the colleges 200 seat Riverside Theatre, a state-of-the-art space with the latest industry technology.

In addition to hosting the shows, Hull College BTEC Level 3 Live Performance students also had the opportunity to be involved with the ‘No Kids’ performance; an energetic and though provoking performance about a same-sex couple deciding to have children or not.

This experience has meant the students achieved first hand work experience by working alongside industry professionals.

Michal Champion said “It has been great to be involved in the production. It has really helped me on my course to see how things will work for me in my career.”

Lucy Rose said “I have been looking forward to this. The course has helped me learn so much about the industry that I’m wanting to move into. It’s so exciting!”

A former student has also returned to the college to support the shows. Matthew Stephenson, a Freelance Lighting Engineer, graduated from Hull College with a BA Honours Degree in Technical Theatre and Production after progressing from BTEC Level 3 Technical Theatre.

Matthew has worked with local theatres, bands, the Freedom Festival, Slam Dunk and Back to Ours events.

Matthew said “I’ve been back to the college a few times and it’s always good to return. I’m using the industry standard equipment that I was able to use during my studies. I have been able to use those skills in my career and they have been really valuable. It’s brilliant to be part of this production and that the students are involved too.”
