A group of Hull College Degree Level Music graduates had the opportunity to record their own tracks at the world-famous Abbey Road Studios in London.

The graduates won the recording session as part of a competition for their course, which selects the best pieces of coursework across performance, song writing and studio production.

6 lucky budding song writers made the cut and won a 5-hour mastering session with world renowned artist Geoff Pesche, a Mastering Engineer who has worked with top artists including Coldplay, Pulp, Kylie Minogue and Lily Allen.

Once the group were in the recording studio, Geoff helped to record and shape each track, offering his expertise and years of industry knowledge.

Craig Steer, Programme Leader for Higher Education Music said “The competition trip to Abbey Road was a celebration of the brilliant talent we have in Further Education and Degree Level Music.”

“The six winners submitted amazing contributions. I’m very proud to have been able to take them for their first mastering session, especially as it was at the most famous recording studio in the world!”

“I hope that this trip gives our graduates the advantage to go out and promote their music as artists, performers and producers. One of our major strengths at Hull College Music is to recognise student talent, develop skills and produce professionals that are industry ready. I wish them every success in their future careers, and hope they come back to share it with us.”

The tracks are now available to download on Spotify.

Graduate Richard Holmes said “It was a once in a lifetime opportunity to not only step inside one of the greatest studios in the world, but to then spend time with a legendary mastering engineer who made it one of the best experiences I’ve ever had, which I’ll never forget.”

Franky Napolitano adds “It was an unbelievable opportunity to meet Geoff Pesche and to have him master one of my songs. It was made extra special to experience the trip with other students from my year group and tutors that have helped me along the way.”

The course hopes to continue this experience for future students, adding to the list of incredible opportunities available to all learners at Hull College.
