Construction learners at Hull College have been given a helping hand as they continue to sharpen up their skills and pave the way to their future in the sector thanks to two generous donations of materials.
British Gypsum has kindly supplied a wide range of plastering products – including bagged plaster, boxes of tape and full packs of plasterboard – to ensure learners at the college have enough materials to work with for the remainder of the 2020/21 academic year.
A subsidiary of the Saint-Gobain group, British Gypsum will now be the main sponsor of the plastering department at the college, which will see the new plastering bays – once completed – given the title of the British Gypsum Centre. The partnership will also see the company support our learners with training and professional development on-site at the college.
The college has also taken delivery of a large amount of timber which has been supplied free of charge by Sal Battersby from Supply Chain Solutions. Based on King George Dock, Supply Chain Solutions (formerly International Timbers and also owned by Saint-Gobain) have been long-term supporters of Hull College and have also committed to providing a further eight loads of timber later this month.
Learners will benefit from the use of all materials which will be used as part of the practical element of their study programmes, providing them with hands-on experience of materials used within the construction industry.
Darren Storrer, Head of Department for Construction and Built Environment at Hull College, was delighted to receive the donations and said: “On behalf of the college, I would like to thank both companies and everyone involved for their generous donation of materials to aid our learners. We get through a significant amount of materials and support like this ensures we can provide even better practical opportunities to all participants on our courses.
“Donations like these really do make a difference to the overall educational experience, providing our learners with the opportunity to undertake practical tasks and develop their skill sets with the calibre of raw materials that they will use in their chosen careers in different parts of the construction industry.”
