Overview

This course offers students the opportunity to learn the basics of modelling in clay, slab building, throwing on the wheel, press moulding and a range of decorative processes such as glazing and slip decoration as well as developing skills in Kiln Forming Processes. More experienced students will extend their skills through increasingly more involved processes. Students will be expected to respond to tutor set assignment briefs and will be encouraged to keep a sketchbook record of inspiration and ideas development, in addition to health and safety notes.

Once a learner has successfully completed a 10 week term, they will be given an opportunity to enrol for a further 10 weeks in the next term to extend existing skills offering increasingly more involved and interesting developments of ideas, techniques and processes.

Due to the nature of this specialism and type of facility groups may be of mixed levels and abilities. Students may be taught alongside others who are studying different qualifications.
