Overview

The Foundation Degree in Fashion and Textiles will develop a meaningful understanding of current commercial design practice for fashion and printed textiles. Offering critical and contextual design theory, which will underpin the practical implementation of design skills in studio-based projects, there will be an opportunity for students to work on client-led briefs simulating the demanding nature of the industry and to become confident in professional garment manufacture and the technology associated with this process.

This course will encourage a positive understanding of media, processes and technology relevant to current commercial design practice for fashion and textiles, therefore the culmination of the course will be to encourage individual development of critical analysis/research skills and evaluative judgement, resulting in a personal creative The Foundation Degree in Fashion and Textiles will develop a meaningful understanding of current commercial design practice for fashion and printed textiles. Progression

Upon completion of this foundation degree, students may wish to progress to the BA (Hons) Fashion Design Top-Up course or pursue a career in any of the following areas: fashion/accessories design, pattern cutting, manufacturing and sample machinist, fashion buying and merchandising, fashion marketing and promotion, trend prediction, stylist and journalist.
