Financial support for new 16-18 full-time students
Following the Government’s withdrawal of Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA), Hull College Group has launched new financial support funds for full-time 16-18 year old students starting from September 2011.
The HCUK Bursary is designed to help students with the costs associated with studying, including travel, meals, books, equipment and materials. Help with the costs of childcare will still be available through the Care to Learn Fund.
If you are looking to start a full-time course with HCUK from September 2011 and you meet the eligibility criteria, you could be entitled to receive one of the above Bursaries.
Receiving full EMA
If you are an existing HCUK student and are progressing into your second year of study and previously received full EMA (£30 per week), you will now receive £20 per week over the duration of your course.
If you studied with another school/college, you could also be entitled to receive the HCUK Young People’s Bursary when you start your studies with us. This is subject to you meeting the eligibility criteria.
To see if you are entitled to receive the HCUK Young People’s Bursary, take a look and see if you meet the criteria below.

The HCUK Young People’s Bursary will be means tested on a current gross household income of up to £20,810 and payments may be paid by BACS transfers directly into students’ bank accounts or “in kind” such as bus tickets, meal deals, CRB checks or transfer of funds to pay for essential equipment for trips.

If you are already studying with us and currently receive full EMA then you don’t need to do anything just yet. We will keep you up to date through our website and Facebook page with the latest developments.
