HCUK Young People’s Bursary

Financial support for new 16-18 full-time students

What is the HCUK Young People’s Bursary?

Following the Government’s withdrawal of Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA), Hull College Group has launched new financial support funds for full-time 16-18 year old students starting from September 2011.

Students that meet the criteria will be eligible to receive one of the following bursaries:

  • A guaranteed bursary of £1,200 to a small group of the most vulnerable students such as those in care, care leavers, those on income support, and students who receive both Disability Living Allowance and Employment Support Allowance.
  • A means-tested bursary of £600 for eligible students.

The HCUK Bursary is designed to help students with the costs associated with studying, including travel, meals, books, equipment and materials. Help with the costs of childcare will still be available through the Care to Learn Fund.

New students

If you are looking to start a full-time course with HCUK from September 2011 and you meet the eligibility criteria, you could be entitled to receive one of the above Bursaries.

Existing students

Receiving full EMA

If you are an existing HCUK student and are progressing into your second year of study and previously received full EMA (£30 per week), you will now receive £20 per week over the duration of your course.

Students who have studied elsewhere

If you studied with another school/college, you could also be entitled to receive the HCUK Young People’s Bursary when you start your studies with us. This is subject to you meeting the eligibility criteria.
