Hull College had a great Apprenticeship Week! Click here to read more!
Hull College Group was proud to support National Apprenticeship Week (6th – 10th February). As well as holding Apprenticeship open events across all three College sites, Hull College Group also ‘surprised’ local businesses with some nibbles produced by Catering Apprentices across all three sites.
Apprentices from Hull, Harrogate and Goole all prepared catering goodies and then dropped in on local businesses including BBC Radio Humberside, Stray FM and the Goole Times to highlight the talents of apprentices.
The snacks were, as anticipated, well received by the companies and apprentices even enjoyed some publicity with interviews on Radio Humberside and Stray FM!
The Hull College Group offers a range of apprenticeships in vocational areas and also employs apprentices across many sites. These apprenticeships offer young people real on the job training and personal development.
Dr Elaine McMahon CBE, Hull College Chief Executive and Principal said:
“Hull College offers a range of Apprenticeships; there are many benefits both for students and employers including on the job, government funded training, a full qualification and a ready and motivated employee.”
Apprenticeships bring considerable value to organisations, employers, individuals and the economy. Businesses across the country are increasingly realising the enormous benefits that Apprenticeships create, not only in terms of developing a highly skilled workforce but also by boosting productivity and staff retention.
Current Government funding aims to increase the number of employers engaged in Apprenticeships. Apprenticeships are seen to represent the most effective way to increase workforce skills and support the UK industry to improve competitiveness and productivity.
Skills shortages are still one of the biggest threats to UK business. Apprenticeships can be taken by employees of all ages, and help businesses across all industries by offering a route to harness fresh talent. Trained staff with the right skills for the job can do a wider range of tasks and take on new responsibilities – this can help to reduce skill shortages, minimise staff turnover and workplace accidents, and increase productivity.
Apprenticeships have traditionally provided the ideal method for bringing young people into many industries. Hull College Group build on this tradition to enable employers to offer reliable training linked to recognised national qualifications across their business.
In addition to the drop in sessions, the Hull College Group also held a number of specialist sessions and workshops at the Goole, Harrogate and Hull sites. These included information events for employers and a question and answer session for potential apprentices.
