Hull College Hospitality and Catering students have once again swept the board at a national Salon Culinaire competition.
10 learners from within the school competed at the “3 Counties Salon Culinaire” held at the Central Bedfordshire College.
The team comprised of learners from the full time programmes at levels 2 and 3 and aged between 16 and 38.
The event was held over 2 days and allowed the students to participate in cold food preparation classes as well as host live cookery theatre classes. The live classes required the students to produce a range of hot, modern dishes within a 25 minute time frame, a task which is no easy feat.
After the awards had been presented, our students walked away with:
- 9 Gold
- 7 Silvers
- 15 Bronze
- A wide range of merit awards
- 9 Best in Class awards
The academic year so far has given the school an impressive run of awards and achievements at many high profile and prestigious competitions including:
- Student Steven Lodge successfully qualified to represent the UK at the WorldSkills final in Abu Dhabi, after competing impressively through all of the gruelling stages.
- The Necta 2017, North East Culinary Trade Salon Culinaire saw 4 learners achieve 2 gold and 2 silver medals.
- Hotelympia 2017 Premier Culinary Olympics resulted in 3 gold medals, 8 silver medals and 15 bronze medals.
In a further act of recognition, the School of Hospitality received a Diploma of Excellence for outstanding teaching and learning.
Curriculum Leader Ian Snedden said, “Competitions are very much at the heart of what we do in the Hospitality and Catering School. They are the perfect way for our students to hone their skills and find their specialities.”
