Employer Responsive
Apprentices MUST hold a minimum of a Full Category C (Rigid Vehicle Licence) before they commence this pathway, as without it they will not be able to commence the additional LGV training. It may be that the candidate may have commenced work in a logistics company before the age of 18 and have already worked in one or more of the following logistics environments - warehousing and storage, carry and deliver goods or traffic office. The candidate’s job role and range of activities will need to meet the qualification requirements.
This depends on individual circumstances and experience, but most apprentices will complete the framework within 12 months
The programme may be started at any time of the year.
Flexible
The Apprenticeship (Level 2) comprises of:
1. Competence Based Element - Level 2 Certificate in Driving Goods Vehicles.
This is a combined qualification incorporating competence and knowledge, which is separately assessed.
2. Functional Skills - Communication Level 1, or Key Skills – Communication Level 1
and Application of Number Level 1, or Key Skills – Application of Number level 1
3. Employee Rights and Responsibilities in the Logistics Industry
Candidates will often working on their own making deliveries to warehouses, distribution outlets, shops or private homes, and may be away from their base sometimes overnight. Candidates will have responsibility for their vehicle and load and will keep accurate records of deliveries and returns.
For Apprentices following Rigid Vehicle Driver Pathway, employed status is the preferred route. Employed Status means that in order to complete the Intermediate Apprenticeship, the candidate must be employed by an employer working in the sector.
After completion of the Intermediate Apprenticeship in Driving Goods Vehicles, (Articulated/Drawbar Driver Pathway), progression to the following Advanced Apprenticeships is possible:
- Driving Goods Vehicles Advanced Apprenticeship
- Logistics Operations Advanced Apprenticeship
There are also opportunities to move into Level 3 (supervisory) jobs and training such as Traffic Office Manager, Warehouse Manager, and Transport Manager
Supervisors and Managers may also wish to look at Foundation Degrees in logistics, transport planning, logistics operations and administration. Please see www.fdf.ac.uk
