Creative industries have both global and local markets. Those operating globally include advertising, design and music. The cultural industries (e.g. craft, cultural heritage, literature, performing and visual arts) make an important contribution to tourism and the visitor economy in Yorkshire & Humberside and the UK. A level 3 Apprenticeship is more suited to those with prior work experience looking for a step up the career ladder. Level 3 Apprentices may also enter the workforce at this level or be employed in an existing job.
Employers look for work-ready, creative individuals who have good literacy and numeracy, strong IT skills and a good understanding of what it takes to work their way up – including the capacity to work hard, efficiently, independently and in teams. The nature of the Advanced Design Apprenticeship will depend on your employer but our local industry includes graphics, print, packaging, brand management and multimedia design as well as many independent practitioners and smaller companies working in a wider range of design and design related activities. As an apprentice, you could also work for a design firm or a non-design business that uses designers in part of its operations.
Apprentices must complete a common competence qualification and a knowledge qualification both awarded by Edexcel. The framework components are listed below.
• Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Art and Design
• Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Design
• Application of Number Key Skill at Level 2
• Communication Key Skill at Level 2
• Information Technology Key Skill at Level 2
or
• Mathematics Functional Skill at Level 2
• English Functional Skill at Level 2
• ICT Functional Skill at Level 2
• BTEC Level 3 Award in Workskills for Apprenticeships (QCF)
The knowledge qualification offers complementary units, which can be tailored flexibly.
Apprentices will receive additional support and guidance, on and off the job, to enhance their learning and development.
This Advanced Apprenticeship in Design provides knowledge and experience to support progression to a variety of higher level qualifications e.g. Foundation Degree and Degree level awards.
